Air And Sat Supervisor exams
A supervisor gave me some blunt feedback on my mock exams recently.
"You can spot the right answer without knowing anything. It's the long one."
He was right. Three short answers and one long, detailed technical one. Guess which
was correct.
I ran the numbers. On some papers, picking the longest answer every time would
have scored 91%. That's a pass without opening a book, and it's useless as
preparation for the real thing.
So I rewrote them. Over 550 answers across nine papers, every one checked against
DWR 1997, the ACOPs and DMAC guidance. The answers are also shuffled every
attempt now.
Picking the longest answer now gets you between 13% and 29%. The pass mark is
75%.
While I was in there I fixed a few things I wasn't happy with either: out-of-date
guidance, a question with two right answers, and some regulation references that
didn't match the actual wording.
If you're sitting your Air or Bell supervisor exam, the only way through these now is to
know it. Which is the point.
