I’ve recently been developing a new in-person project here in South London: a guitar course and ensemble bringing players together to learn, improve and explore what a group of acoustic guitars can do. Each session will combine focused technical work with ensemble playing, using specially prepared arrangements across rock, pop, folk and other styles. I’m currently arranging Metallica’s The Call of Ktulu, which should be an interesting test of how far an acoustic-guitar ensemble can push its sound! The orchestra will also have a home here in the community. Its members will be joining us online to access supporting materials and lessons, share ideas and stay connected between rehearsals. This means our online members and the musicians meeting in person will be part of the same wider guitar community, with opportunities to learn from and inspire one another. The arranging process, technical ideas and discoveries that emerge from working with the orchestra will also become material for future discussions and lessons here. These pieces explore skills and techniques relevant to Rockschool, MTB, London College of Music and Trinity pathways. Both libraries are free for all community members and will continue to grow as I publish new videos and resources.
