At 14 years old, Guccio Gucci left Florence and moved to London to work as a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel.
He carried luggage and served wealthy guests, earning just a few dollars a week to help support his family.
While doing his job, he noticed something important. The guests all carried beautiful luggage and fine leather bags. That stayed with him.
In the early 1900s, Guccio returned to Florence and worked in a small leather goods shop.
He learned the basics by doing the work himself. Stitching. Tanning leather. Designing bags and belts. Day by day, he built real skill.
In 1921, with little money and no reputation, he opened his own shop. He focused on high quality leather luggage, handbags, and accessories. His goal was simple. Make things that last.
After World War II, leather became hard to find.
Instead of stopping, Gucci found another way. He imported bamboo from Japan and created the bamboo handle bag. It became a symbol of luxury.
Soon after, the horsebit loafer was introduced, inspired by horse riding gear and known for its metal detail.
When his sons took over, they expanded the brand worldwide.
Today, Gucci is worth over $18 billion, with more than 500 stores across major cities like Paris, London, and Milan.
Guccio Gucci once said, “Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.”
Just like Guccio Gucci, you can start small and build something big by doing your best and never giving up. #Believe
