🧵 Welcome + Sewing Foundations
We're starting TODAY and I am so excited for you! 🎉
Over the next 10 days, you're going to sew your very first pair of shorts from scratch. Yes, really!
Here's how it works: every other day I'll drop a new post guiding you through a lesson in the classroom.
You practice in between and share your progress. Simple as that.
Today we're starting with your sewing foundations. If you just shouted "BORING!" I want to be straight with you:
Most sewing mess ups happen because you either don't *know* what the mistake is you've made or you don't *understand a basic sewing skill* so you skip it or do it poorly.
🚨 THERE ARE VERY FEW SEWING SKILLS YOU REALLY NEED TO GET STARTED🚨
This weekend, your task is to practice the *absolute essentials* so you're not making unnecessary mistakes when you start sewing.
Here's what to do:
- Get some scrap fabric. Sacrifice an old pillowcase if you must 😉
- Cut it into strips of about 5x10cm (2 x 4")
- Use it to practice the skills and the stitches you'll actually use the most when sewing your own clothes
You're going to work on:
WHY WE'RE DOING THIS?
👉 Think of it like that part of learning to drive where you practice driving around the parking lot first. You work on steering control, getting comfortable and, most importantly, not freaking out that the car is moving 😂
**You need to be able to handle fabric moving through your machine, and knowing what these terms mean will speed up your sewing when you are working on a pattern**
WHEN YOU'RE DONE:
Share a pic below, we'd love to see.
