Our Skool classroom and how it works!
🚨 Thinking about building a barndominium… but have no idea where to actually start? Plans, land, budgets, permits, shops, chickens, kids, trucks—it’s a lot. I built this Skool to walk you through the entire process using our real project: 👉 124' x 60' x 20' steel tube building👉 Two houses on each end👉 Full shop in the middle👉 Real land, real mistakes, real numbers And now the member-only classrooms are live. Here’s what you get inside the paid membership 👇 🧠 Initial Design – “What are we even building?” - House vs shop balance (are you shop-with-a-house or house-with-a-shop?) - How to plan bedrooms, bathrooms, mudrooms, storage, and daily flow - How to hand-sketch a layout someone can turn into real drawings - Thinking long-term: kids, parents, animals, business, future add-ons 🌎 Choosing Land, Clearing & Prep – “Is this dirt even worth building on?” - How to define exactly what you need from a property (not just “5–10 acres”) - Zoning, HOAs, and restrictions that quietly kill barndos - Utilities, driveways, and site work that wreck budgets if you ignore them - How to evaluate parcels online, walk land like a builder, write smart offers - Surveys, perc tests, pads, drainage, clearing, permits—the full path to pad-ready 💰 Budget, Bids & Build Strategy – “Can I actually afford this?” - Full cost map: land, site work, shell, interior, shop, systems, fees, contingency - How to set a real project budget cap (not vibes) - How much you can safely spend on land without starving the build - Breaking your project into real buckets and avoiding the four big money traps - Upcoming chapters on financing, GC vs owner-builder, bids, contracts & phasing 🔧 Future Classrooms (already in the pipeline) - Shell & structural choices (kits vs tube vs wood, slabs, insulation, condensation) - Comfort systems (HVAC, hot water, electrical, dehumidification) - Shop layout, power, storage & workflow - Real-world build updates from our own barndo as it goes up

Meet the Silkies (and the OG Leghorn Crew) 🐔
We’re not just building a barndominium out here… we’re also building a small feathery empire. Quick flock rundown: New additions: - 2 silkie hens - 4 silkie mix hens - 1 miniature rooster Existing crew: - 7 leghorn hens (we rehomed the leghorn rooster a couple months ago) The silkies have their own dedicated coop now, separate from the leghorns. I’ll drop photos of the new silkie setup and the flock so you can see how they’re living. This forum is for all the “extras” that come with land and a barndo: chickens, ducks, goats, dogs, barn cats, whatever you’ve got wandering around eating feed and money. 👉 Drop a reply with: - What animals you have (or plan to have) on your property - Any coop/barn setups you’re proud of - One lesson you learned the hard way about keeping animals on land Barndos are cool, but a barndo with chickens and chaos around it is better.

From Rotten Trailer to Barndominium Build Lab – Day 1
When we bought this property it came with a rotted-out mobile home and a tired little wooden barn. The septic was questionable, the structure was unsafe, and it was all taking up space where the new build needed to go. So we did it the hard way: a bobcat, a lot of sweat, and something like 8 dumpsters later, the mobile home was gone and the site was finally usable dirt instead of a liability. This Skool is where I’m going to document the full build of our barndominium: - 124' x 60' x 20' steel building - Two homes on the ends - A shared shop in the middle I’ll share real numbers, drawings, screw-ups, change orders, and what I’d do differently as we go. Drop a comment with where you’re at in your own barndo journey, then check the photos on this post to see where we started. The “before” is always uglier than the realtor photos admit.
