What’s the difference between reacting and responding?
Join us! https://lnkd.in/enJpqSKv The main difference is the pause between what happens and what you do next. A reaction tends to be immediate and automatic. A response includes enough awareness to notice what you’re feeling or thinking and then choose what you want to do. For example, imagine a friend says something that feels disrespectful. Reaction: “I can’t believe you said that to me!” You immediately argue, withdraw, send a sharp text, or say something you later wish you hadn’t. Response: You still feel the hurt or anger, but you notice it first: “That really bothered me.” Then you decide how you want to handle it: “When you said that, I felt disrespected. I’d like to talk about what happened.” And this is important for your Awakeness™ work: responding doesn’t mean being passive or allowing inappropriate behavior. A conscious response can be very firm. You can say no, establish a boundary, end a conversation, or even step away from a relationship. The difference is that you’re choosing the action rather than letting the immediate emotion choose it for you. A simple Awakeness™ formula could be: EVENT → PAUSE → AWARENESS → CHOICE → RESPONSE versus EVENT → EMOTION → AUTOMATIC REACTION That also clarifies something from your Day 1 answer: reflection after you react is still awareness. You’re recognizing the pattern afterward. The next stage of growth is gradually moving that awareness closer to the moment itself—until eventually you catch yourself before reacting.

DAY 1 — What Is Awareness?
DAY 1 — What Is Awareness? Today we begin our 30-Day Awakeness™ Journey. Before we can change a pattern, improve a relationship, make a different decision, or respond differently to life, we first have to see what is happening within us. That is where awareness begins. For Day 1, we're going back to Awakeness™ Podcast — Season 1, Episode 1: What Is Awareness? Our goal isn't simply to listen. We're going to: 🎧 LISTEN — Listen to Season 1, Episode 1. 💭 REFLECT — Think about what awareness means in your own life. 💬 DISCUSS — Share your answer with our Skool community. 🌱 APPLY — Notice one moment today when you're operating automatically—and consciously pause. Today's Question Where in your life are you operating on automatic instead of consciously choosing your response? Don't focus on someone else's behavior. Turn the mirror inward. What did you notice? 👇 Join the discussion and post your answer inside the Awakeness™ Skool Community. Join the 30-Day Awakeness™ Skool Journey If you haven't already, start with the FREE 15-Question Snapshot Awareness Assessment at awaken11-us.org. Day 1 starts with YOU. Awareness begins within. New 30-Day Awakeness tm Journey! Please Read and Enjoy!
🌟 Welcome to Our 30-Day Awakeness™ Podcast Journey Hello, Awakeness™ Community! Over the next 30 days, we're going to do something different. We're not simply going to listen to the Awakeness™ Podcast—we're going to put awareness into practice. Each day, I'll post a discussion inspired by episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 from the Classroom Tab and the 10 Dimensions of Awakeness™. Our goal is simple: 🎧 LISTEN — Hear the message. 💭 REFLECT — Look within yourself. ✍🏽 ANSWER — Share your thoughts with the community. 🌱 APPLY — Put what you've discovered into practice. 📘 Want to Go Deeper? Throughout our 30-Day Awakeness™ Podcast Journey, I’ll also be connecting our discussions to the Awakeness™ Assessment Workbooks. The podcast gives you something to listen to. The discussions give you something to think about and share. The workbook gives you a structured way to measure, examine, and work on your own awareness. You do not have to purchase a workbook to participate in our 30-Day Journey. However, if you’re ready to go deeper, I encourage you to have your Awakeness™ Workbook available as we move through the discussions. We’ll explore areas such as Self-Responsibility, Emotional Regulation, Communication Awareness, Accountability, Pattern Recognition, Decision Alignment, Cause & Effect Awareness, Ego & Identity Awareness, Conflict Response, and Intentional Growth. 📚 Choose the workbook that’s right for you: Full Awareness Assessment Workbook — for a comprehensive exploration of all 10 Dimensions. Individual Awareness Assessment Workbook — for your personal awareness journey. Youth Awareness Workbook — designed for young people developing awareness and life skills. And if you’re not ready for a workbook yet, begin with my FREE 15-Question Snapshot Awareness Assessment. There are no perfect answers here. This is about becoming more conscious of your thoughts, emotions, choices, relationships, reactions, patterns, and behaviors. I encourage you to participate—not just read the posts. Answer the questions. Join the conversations. Try the exercises. Share what you discover.
