In this video I show five apps I rebuilt with Claude Code, most of them with REA (Reverse Engineer Anything): Wispr Flow's dictation, Loom, Excel and chess.com premium, plus Mac's Photo Booth for fun. They all run on your own Mac. All five are below for you to install. The five apps:
HoldToType (Wispr Flow's dictation): hold a key, speak, let go and the words are typed wherever your cursor is. The speech-to-text runs on your Mac, so nothing goes to the cloud.
MyLoom (Loom): a menu-bar screen recorder with a camera bubble, background blur and drawing on screen. Recordings save as MP4s to your Movies folder. You can also share a link through your own Supabase project if you want one.
MyPhotoBooth (Photo Booth): your webcam with Photo Booth's 24 effects, the 3-2-1 countdown and photos saved to your Pictures folder.
MySheets (Excel): a spreadsheet that looks and works like Excel's grid and saves real .xlsx files. It doesn't calculate formulas yet.
MyChess (chess.com premium): a 3D board, a computer opponent you can set from 400 to 3190, a Stockfish coach that grades every move, over 14,000 puzzles, endgames and opening theory. How to install one:
Step 1, What you need:
A Mac and Claude Code. HoldToType, MyLoom, MyPhotoBooth and MySheets need an Apple Silicon Mac. MyChess runs on any Mac on macOS 11 or later.
Step 2, Open Claude Code:
Open it in a folder you'll keep, for example a new Apps folder in your home folder.
Step 3, Paste the prompt:
Paste the line for the app you want. Claude Code checks your Mac, installs what's missing, builds the app, tests it and walks you through the permissions.
Good to know:
- If Apple's Command Line Tools are missing, a macOS window pops up. Click Install.
- HoldToType and MyLoom need Homebrew. If you don't have it, Claude Code gives you one command to paste into Terminal, because it asks for your Mac password.
- HoldToType downloads a 1.6 GB speech model the first time.
- MyChess runs from the folder you clone it into, so keep that folder where it is.
- Each app is built on your own Mac, so macOS doesn't block it as a download from an unknown developer.
