. 📌 Assisted Living Success Hub — Community Guidelines
Welcome to the Assisted Living Success Hub! This is a professional, supportive community for aspiring and established assisted living and group home owners who want to start right, stay compliant, operate successfully, and grow. To protect the value of our community, please follow these guidelines: 1. Be Respectful & Professional. Treat every member with respect. Different experiences and opinions are welcome; disrespectful, discriminatory, threatening, or abusive behavior is not. 2. Keep Posts Relevant. Please keep discussions related to assisted living, group homes, licensing, compliance, operations, staffing, training, marketing, census growth, business development, and other relevant industry topics. 3. No Unapproved Advertising or Solicitation. Please do not post advertisements, phone numbers, promotional links, affiliate offers, financial products, events, courses, consulting services, or other solicitations without prior admin approval. Educational contributions are welcome, but the community should not become a sales board. 4. Protect Confidentiality & Privacy. Never post residents’ protected health information, confidential records, identifying information, passwords, or other sensitive information. When discussing a situation, remove identifying details. 5. Ask Questions—That’s Why We’re Here. There are no “silly” questions. If you are confused about licensing, compliance, staffing, operations, inspections, or business growth, ask. Your question may help another member too. 6. Share Value, Not Just Promotion. We encourage members to share experiences, lessons learned, helpful resources, successes, and practical ideas that can benefit the community. 7. Verify Requirements for Your State. Assisted living regulations vary by state and may change. Community discussions and educational materials are for informational purposes and should not replace verification with your applicable licensing or regulatory authority or individualized legal, financial, or professional advice. 8. Admin Moderation: Posts or comments that violate these guidelines may be edited or removed. Repeated violations may result in removal from the community.

The 47-Point Survey-Readiness Checklist
Welcome in. I am glad you are here. Most providers do not fail a survey because they do not care. They fail because no one ever walked the building with fresh eyes and asked the hard questions out loud. So that is what I built for you. Forty-seven points across the eight domains where findings actually happen in Maryland assisted living, DDA group homes, and residential service agencies. Under every point is a short note on why it matters — because knowing why is what turns a checkbox into a habit. Download it. Print it. Walk your building with a pen, not a laptop. Check a box only when you have physically seen the evidence. Then come back and tell us your number in the comments. An unchecked box today is a gift. An unchecked box during a survey is a deficiency. I will answer one compliance question here every week. Ask yours below. See you again. Ayo AkinOni, MPH
If you were starting an assisted living or group home today, what’s the one thing you’d want someone to explain before you spent any money
There’s so much that goes into opening a home beyond simply having a good business idea. Licensing, policies, staffing, compliance, finding residents, and actually keeping everything running can feel like a lot to figure out. I’m curious what others think is the part that people tend to underestimate when they’re getting started. For those who already own or operate a home, what’s something you wish you had understood before opening your doors? And for those still planning, what’s the biggest question you’re trying to get answered right now? I think the real experiences from people who have already gone through the process can be just as valuable as the formal guidance.

HEI loans for opening a business or helping a senior to move into your facility!
Help seniors transition into your assisted living facility with the option to obtain a Home Equity Investment loan. This allows families to retain ownership of their home while their loved ones move into a more comfortable and better-suited environment. The loan can also help pay off skilled nursing or hospital bills, with no payments required until the seniors pass away. At that point, the family can refinance or sell the home to settle the loan. There are no liens, no payments during their lifetime, and no stress involved. Does this sound too good to be true? It isn’t! I did this for my own family and have seen many seniors living in assisted living facilities who need additional care to stay there. If you have questions, call today at 509-822-0911.
