Roller Skating Tips!
Posture
Bend your knees for balance and keep your feet shoulder-width apart
Lean forward slightly. When leaning, think about leaning forward from the waist, not the shoulders
Keep your hands in front of you and low to the ground
Tuck your elbows close to your sides
Moving
Keep your skates in a V-shape so that your heels are together and your toes are pointing out
Think about keeping your heels underneath you. If you want to go forward, push the ground away with your heels
If you want to go backwards, push the ground away with your toes
In the beginning, start with small strides. As you get more comfortable, you can increase the distance you glide
Stopping
Most skates come with a brake attached to the right heel. Push the brake on your right heel into the ground with firm pressure
Keep the brake forward so that it touches the ground slightly in front of the left toe wheel
The harder you push the brake into the ground, the faster you will stop
Practice stopping from a slow glide until you feel comfortable stopping on command
