Closing the Community
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who joined, shared, commented, and contributed here. This community attracted some thoughtful people and some genuinely solid experience. Iโ€™ve appreciated the stories, the honesty about failures, and the willingness a few of you showed to document real systems rather than talk theory. That said, itโ€™s clear there isnโ€™t quite enough momentum or ongoing interest right now to justify keeping this space active in the way it deserves. Rather than letting it quietly drift, I think itโ€™s better to acknowledge that and close things down cleanly. That doesnโ€™t take away from the value of what was shared here. If anything, it confirms something I still believe strongly: aquaponics works best when driven by people actively building, observing, and exchanging in real time. Thank you again for being part of this, even briefly. I genuinely wish you well with your systems, your experiments, and whatever direction you take next. Take care, and keep building.
What Do You Notice Before Something Breaks?
I was thinking. Iโ€™ve noticed over time that aquaponics systems rarely fail all at once. Most of the time, they drift slowly out of balance. The signs are easy to miss at first. When I started, I definitely overestimated how much equipment mattered and underestimated how much value there is in watching or rather, observing the system. That got me curious. If youโ€™ve run a system before, what was the first small sign that told you something wasnโ€™t quite right? And, if youโ€™re still in learning mode (which is completely fine), whatโ€™s one part of aquaponics youโ€™d like to understand better when the time comes? What scares you about moving forward (don't say "my partner") ๐Ÿ˜‚ No pressure to reply if youโ€™re just here to read and absorb. Thatโ€™s a valid place to be. But if you feel like sharing real experiences it helps the community a lot.
Quick video of my setup
Please look. https://youtube.com/shorts/MbG_AozgXN8?si=lty3qM_6Zsl89Y-E I'll do a more indepth one and diagram if interest. I have this running about 5 years or so. The Koi were 6 weeks old when I started and were more numerous! It pumped system controlled by Home assistant automatically. I'm in Cambridge UK and in winter averaging around 5ยฐc
How do a person recover
With the heaviest rain in 50 yrs around us. I must thank the all mighty, that I did not loose more than this, some peoples lost houses. I lost 122 000 liters and about 6 000 fish. The dam was build in 2015, and was mostly 3/4 full for 6 yrs, start to overflowing with end of December. 15 days of still heavy rain, now โ€ฆโ€ฆ.. All that I can do is laugh about it, but a huge setback on my system. Was planing to build the grow beds this year, but have to rebuild my dam. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Here's a quick diagram of my system, its in a greenhouse around 5m x 4.5m. I've had it running for several years now, please see previous video.
