Issue with Appending Action from one file to another
Hello all! I hope you’re doing well! I’m running into a Blender rig/Action issue and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I’m appending an Action from one file into another scene that already has animation. When I append the Action into a brand-new scene, it plays perfectly. But when I append the same Action into my actual working scene, only the bottom half of the rig follows the animation—the upper body stays still. Could you advise what might cause this and how to fix it? A few details: - Software: Blender (Actions via Dope Sheet/Action Editor; also tested in NLA). - Behavior: In the troubled scene, the Action seems to drive only lower-body bones (legs/hips). - The armature names look the same, and the Action is linked to the same rig. If it helps, I can share the .blend, the rig names, and short screen recordings. Also happy to try any of the following if you think they’re relevant: - Verify identical Armature Object Data and bone names (no mismatches or suffix differences). - Check Pose Library / Rest Pose differences and apply transforms (Ctrl-A) on the armature/mesh. - Ensure the mesh Armature Modifier targets the same armature as the Action. - Look for bone constraints (Copy Transforms/Rotation) that might be overriding upper-body bones. - Push the Action to NLA, then strip sync (same strip name, same armature track). - Confirm Keying Set/channels exist for upper-body bones in the Action (not filtered). - Check if the rig uses bone layers/collections that are disabled in this scene. If you’ve seen this before, what’s the usual culprit—and is there a clean workflow to retarget or remap the Action so the full rig animates? Thank you so much for any guidance!
