SUBMITED QNA “Jumping”
MJ, my dog jumps on every single person they meet. How do I stop it?”
Here’s what’s actually happening: jumping works. Every time your dog jumps and someone pets them, laughs, or even pushes them down, the dog got what they wanted. A reaction. You accidentally taught them that jumping = attention.
Here’s the fix, and EVERYONE in the house needs to follow this:
🔴 No eye contact. Look away completely.
🔴 No touch. Turn your body away, cross your arms.
🔴 No words. Not “no,” not “off,” not “down.” Silence. Completely “die”
The moment all four paws hit the floor? Immediately mark it with “Yes!” and give them the attention they were looking for.
The hard part? Getting your guests to follow the same rules. Because the second Grandma lets them jump “just this once,” you’re back to square one.
Has your dog got the jumping problem? Tell me how bad it is, and if you have any questions feel free to drop them below!
