Addiction and a wake up call
Step 1 — Curiosity Hook
What it is: Challenge a common belief with your new reality.
- Everyone thinks retirement is a dream. Here is what I am learning…(purpose and time management are integral)
- Since I have young kids, I need to be on dad duty and structure their days and mine.
- Since the NYSTRS takes up to six months to create my pension checks, money is tight and I need to budget and find extra income.
- Since my wife still has 10 years to go, I need to learn how to be a stay at home hubby taking care of things she used to do.
- I thought being an addict meant I was broken until I found out how to use obsessive compulsiveness as a superpower.
- Investing in coaching is pointing to me to a more clear purpose
- Perfectionism keeps me up at night to do my homework with detail, however much I’m still not sleeping enough
Step 2 — Knife-Edge Hook
What it is: The thing you almost did—then the decisive move that saved your ass
- I almost lost my wife until I took responsibility for my own stupidity
- How I had to finally own up to my addiction and my irresponsible behaviors
- I almost lost myself in drugs, instead, I embraced that part of my addiction to find recovery.
- Six years in a dark place almost left me bankrupt and homeless till I asked for help and found a better way
- I almost started believing my social workers toxic advice but instead I began helping others again.
- How reading, training, teaching/coaching, and sharing my journey is keeping my mind sharp and focused on my true purpose to grow and help others
Step 3 — Refusal Hook
What it is: Draw a line in the sand. No to the old path; yes to the better one.
- I refused addiction. I choose bodybuilding and martial arts.
- How bodybuilding amps me up and reminds me how it feels to be alive.
- How training and meditation centers me and keeps me level and able to see what’s important in life.
- I am saying no to worrying about how I will be seen and yes to just having fun on this journey.
- I am having fun, even at just 3 days, with IG4R*tards, which is reducing my anxiety greatly about growing a fitbody biz through social media.
- Never again, surely alive “no to my addiction.” From now on, Faith, Fellowship, Fun & Fit.
- How I am using recovery to rebuild my life a day at a time.
