I went from 47% weekly usage to 5% in one refresh. Reset is Friday 7 PM.
Anthropic struck a major compute deal with SpaceX, gaining access to the entire Colossus 1 data center in Memphis (over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and 300+ megawatts of capacity coming online within the month).
That Colossus was originally built by xAI for Grok. But Musk moved Grok training to Colossus 2 and leased Colossus 1 to Anthropic.
With that extra compute, Anthropic announced three changes effective immediately:
- Claude Code's 5-hour rate limits doubled for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans
- Peak hours throttling removed for Pro and Max users
- API rate limits substantially raised for Claude Opus models (Tier 1 saw a ~1500% increase in input tokens/min)
My personal case: the 47% → 5% mystery
I monitor my Claude Max usage carefully, daily and weekly, and combine Claude with other models (GLM-5, Ollama, etc.) to stay efficient.
A few hours ago, I was sitting at 47% of my weekly limit (resets Friday 7 PM).
Then the app refreshed.
I was now at 5%.
I hadn't used anything in between. My actual consumption (tokens used) was identical. The only thing that could have changed was the ceiling -> the maximum amount the percentage is measured against.
The math:
If the weekly limit had simply doubled (2x), 47% should have become ~23.5%.
Instead, 47% became 5%. That ratio (47 ÷ 5 = 9.4) means the weekly ceiling grew roughly 9 times bigger, not 2x.
If Anthropic doubled the 5-hour bucket but kept the weekly bucket the same, users would just hit the weekly wall twice as fast, making the "doubling" useless. So I really think they had to expand both. They just didn't shout about how much the weekly cap grew.
The 5-hour limits were officially doubled. The weekly limits (at least in my case) grew by significantly more than that. If you're on Max and tracking your usage closely, check your dashboard. You probably have way more headroom this week than you thought.
Reset for me is Friday 7 PM. I'm pushing hard until then 👊
