Someone built a free, open source take on Claude Design, and it runs on the Claude Code you already have.
🔗 Official links from the video:
It is called Open Design. The desktop app ships no model of its own: it finds the Claude Code on your machine and uses it as the design engine, so you describe a landing page, a dashboard or a slide deck and it writes real files you can export as HTML, PDF, PPTX or MP4. If you would rather run a different model, you bring your own API key.
💡 What the guide covers
✅ Installing the app on Mac or Windows, and running it from source on Linux
✅ Picking Claude Code as the engine and writing a brief that works
✅ Driving it from inside Claude Code with no app window open
✅ The macOS command clash that breaks the setup, and the fix

Every step was checked against the repo on 13 October 2026, including the fixes for the errors its own docs warn about.
What would you design with it first? Tell me in the comments.
