I want to give you a heads up on something you may start noticing, especially if you have members joining from Europe.
Some European customers will now see VAT added at checkout. This can make the final price higher than what’s shown on your About page.
For example, someone might see $199, but when they go to pay, the total is higher based on their country’s tax rate.
The percentage is not the same for everyone. You might see 19%, 20%, 21% or other variations depending on where the customer is located.
This is happening because Skool is acting as the merchant of record, which means they are required to collect VAT for many EU customers based on the customer’s location.
As Andrew Kirby shared:
📣 A few important things to know:
This applies to EU customers, not all of Europe
UK customers are not affected in the same way
This applies to new customers going forward
The VAT will show on their invoice
Previous customers will not suddenly see VAT added to past payments
The tax is based on the customer’s location, not yours
This is not an extra fee being taken from you
The main thing to be aware of is the buyer experience. If someone expects one price and then sees a higher total at checkout, it can create confusion or hesitation, especially if you are marketing with phrases like “ONLY $199” and that is not what they end up paying.
Nothing you need to change right now, but it’s worth knowing so you are not caught off guard if someone asks. That is why I'm making this post.
