October is ADHD Awareness Month! ๐Ÿง  ๐ŸŽƒ
Did you know that October is ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness month?
Have a specific question about ADHD? Drop it in the comments!!!
ADHD is not about being โ€œbrokenโ€ or โ€œlazy.โ€ Instead, itโ€™s a different way the brain works.
To celebrate and help spread awareness, I plan to post a fact about ADHD every day. That way we can dispel some common myths and help more people understand what ADHD isโ€”and what it's NOT.
Today's fact?
ADD no longer exists.
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) was the old term used for people who struggled mainly with inattention (daydreaming, forgetfulness, losing things) but didnโ€™t show the hyperactivity piece.
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is the current, official name. The medical community now uses ADHD for all ADHD types, whether hyperactivity is present or not.
Modern ADHD is recognized in three types:
  1. Primarily Inattentive Type โ€“ what used to be called ADD. These folks often have trouble focusing, organizing, or following through, but theyโ€™re not overly hyperactive.
  2. Primarily Hyperactive/Impulsive Type โ€“ more restlessness, fidgeting, talking a lot, acting quickly without much pause.
  3. Combined Type โ€“ a mix of inattentive and hyperactive symptoms.
But did you know that the term ADHD is actually misleading, and some doctors believe it is entirely WRONG? I'll share more about that tomorrow...
P.S. We will be announcing the winners of the 30-day Scattered to Focused September challenge tomorrow as well! So stay tuned!
