How explicit should we be with clients about the process? 🤔
I have a two or three clients that tend to focus a lot on the details. For the most part, asking the right questions to pull them up the levels is the right approach. However, for one of them, my sense is that she is pushing into the details because she is thinking that making decisions is the purpose of the session and she is focussing on details because that is how she usually makes decisions.
I know I need to use the initial context and permission bit of our next session to address this, but I'm wondering how explicit to be. Is it OK to point out her approach and suggest a change? Is it right to spend a minute or two going into some of the theory of the levels to give her a new focus?
I would love to hear any thoughts people might have on how much they tell clients about how coaching works and how close to asking clients to show up in a certain way people go.
