How explicit should we be with clients about the process? 🤔
I have a two or three clients that tend to focus a lot on the details. For the most part, asking the right questions to pull them up the levels is the right approach. However, for one of them, my sense is that she is pushing into the details because she is thinking that making decisions is the purpose of the session and she is focussing on details because that is how she usually makes decisions. I know I need to use the initial context and permission bit of our next session to address this, but I'm wondering how explicit to be. Is it OK to point out her approach and suggest a change? Is it right to spend a minute or two going into some of the theory of the levels to give her a new focus? I would love to hear any thoughts people might have on how much they tell clients about how coaching works and how close to asking clients to show up in a certain way people go.

@Brajamohan Das not specifically, but things about what something says about what she values or who is that version of herself that she was being in that situation etc. It's just that wherever she has an insight she then tries to file that into her calculations of the details and I have to bring her back each time. I discussed it with people in the training earlier and we talked about how I can use the bit about my role and her role in the initial context and permission to be more explicit about it without crossing any lines, which was really helpful 😊 (Thank you @Rituu Sharrma , @Premanjana Das and @Doreen Kahale !)

To be honest, I really stumbled on coaching, but it felt right, and feels more right with every day that passes. In terms of what it would mean to my life? Well, there are a great many answers to that question, but the one that comes to mind is that it is the answer to a tension I have been struggling with for few years now. I want to have a wide impact, but I love to work directly with people. This always felt like a choice between my selfish needs and a values-led purpose. Coaching feels like a way to do both - to put all my energy into making the biggest difference I can and still be doing what I love.

I'm in, and I'd like to understand something that's been bugging at me from the beginning: coaches market themselves to a niche - they attract clients who want coaches with skills, experience and knowledge in a particular area. But if coaches are always completely led by the client, then how do we bring the value of our specific expertise to bear? What can you give them over and above what another coach would if all your questions are solely based on what the client just said and not on your own knowledge and intuition?
Coaching for confidence
I've started coaching my ten clients this week. For 3-4 of them, it was crystal clear after the first session what they want, but their confidence that they are good enough is the main issue. Has anyone come across this before? What worked? What didn't? I would really appreciate any thoughts, tips, book recommendations or anything you might have to offer!

I am looking to transition my career in social care towards coaching for parents and young people, and the professionals working with them.
