We Are Body, Soul, and Spirit — According to the Bible 📖
The Bible does not describe humans as only physical beings. Scripture reveals a three-part design created by God Himself: body, soul, and spirit—each distinct, each with purpose.
📖 The Foundational Proof
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
🔑 Notice the order and clarity: spirit → soul → body. Scripture separates them, proving they are not the same thing.
1️⃣ The
Body
— The Physical World
“For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
- Your body connects you to the natural world
- It has senses, strength, and limitations
- It is temporary, not eternal
“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?”

Soul
— Mind, Will, and Emotions
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Your soul includes:
- 🧠 Mind (thoughts, reasoning)

- ✋ Will (choices, decisions)

Spirit
— God-Conscious & Eternal
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Your spirit:
- Is how you connect with God
- Was dead in sin, made alive in Christ
- Is reborn, not repaired
“That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
