Punctuation matters. We all know: Let's eat, Grandma vs. Let's eat Grandma! It may seem unimportant to you, but for markers, bad punctuation will really pull your marks down. You need to revisit punctuation rules if you're a bit rusty. Punctuation = Clarity and Clarity = Marks!

The biggest mistake that students make in their essays is not answering the question. This is often the section on the marking key that is worth the most marks, and yet a lot of students are missing out on marks or even failing their essays because they do not properly answer the question. You may have heard your teacher bang on about using the 'key words'. There is a good reason for this. What you need to do is to underline the key words in the question and make sure that every paragraph you write relates back to these key words.
