Is this enough contrast?
I like these colors but am worried that the black and white doesn’t “pop” enough. Thoughts on the pink?
Is this enough contrast?

@Heather Smyth Well, in my personal opinion it wouldn't as it would look quite muted, BUT that might be to your taste If you can do a quick colourwork swatch, you'll see what I mean and then you can decide if you like it or not :)

@Heather Smyth Yes, absolutely 😍
The Mystery Yokealong is back!
Our Mystery KAL is officially back for year three! We’re knitting a top-down round yoke sweater (or a steeked cardigan) together over seven weekly clues, kicking off on January 16th. This year, we’re leaning into stash-busting, so feel free to start hunting through your yarn collection now. You can get all the details on the Ravelry pattern page or here on Skool in the dedicated Classroom where I’ll also be posting all the relevant video tutorials as clues become available. We’d love for you to jump in and share your yarn picks, questions, and progress photos. Just use the "MYAL 2026" category for your posts. Heads up: we aren’t doing spoiler alerts this time, so feel free to post away in whatever way you like just as long as it is in that category! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with this year.

Help with yarn choice
I've combed through my stash and came up with this combo: main: dark greens and blues, blending: burgundy, maroon, contrast: beige and powder pink, framing: black. I usually prefer dark, muted colours, and I'm happy with the combination. (though most of the sweaters I own are dark green... oh well, what can a girl do). Just few things I'm worried about: 1. I don't want a beige sweater. And though the colour category is listed as "contrast", it's A LOT of yarn! I'm afraid the sweater is going to be mostly beige. 2. I'm not sure if it's ok for the contrast colour to be lighter than the main colour - I've noticed that in some designs the pattern looks better if the base is light and the motif dark. Since this is a mystery knit, I've no way of knowing if it's going to work, or if it would be better to switch these two? 3. And lastly, being still a beginner, I'm not sure if it's ok to mix these materials. All of the yarns I picked are wool / merino / alpaca blends, BUT - is it ok to mix superwash and non-superwash treated yarn in one project? How will I block or wash the sweater when it is finished? (for example: dark green Malabrigo Worsted - single ply, non-superwash, and beige Rial SNC Morbidone - plied, superwash treated)

This will be gorgeous 😍, and certainly not beige, especially if your framing colour is dark. It s absolutely ok to mix fibers and materials, it will work out and this will be a fantastic adventure creating a texturally very interesting garment :)
Yarn choice help
So, I bought this yarn with a different pattern in mind, but I accidentally bought the wrong weight yarn and could not get it to work up in the gauge I needed. So I was so grateful for this knit along as it used worsted weight yarn and I can finally use this lovely yarn! My problem is though I have enough of the grain color for colors an and d, but only enough of the variegated yarn for color c, with 65 yards left over. Also, as I (mostly) buy my yarn with a project in mind, I have very little stash that’s not dedicated to something and definitely not enough for all that’s needed in color b, so I will have go purchase more yarn. So now my dilemma. The skeins of yarn I get are in 210 yards skeins, color b calls for 270 yards. In the interest of using as much yarn from my stash as possible, can I get away with using the same color as c? If I buy a new skein in that color, with the yardage I have left over from c I would have 265 yards. Which would leave me playing yarn chicken with 5 yards left over, but I (fingers crossed) would have enough leftovers in my stash to get me that 5 yards. (Or depending on how the pattern turns out I could also just improvise with the color work) Would having the same color b as c even work with this pattern? Or do I have to buy 2 whole new skeins for b? My other options are so slim and I would have to borrow from other projects to get the 5 yards anyway…. Help.(Second photo is possible options for remaining 5 yards compared to the color way picked for c. The top two is fingering weight so I would have to hold them together and gauge would be tricky on the bottom is another worsted weight yarn but color would be way off. I mean the colors would be way off for the top one too, but here’s to hoping the blue saves the day?)

Hi! The yardage stated is an estimate as it does depend on the fiber type / yarn structuers etc, and it also has about 10% added buffer for swatching and to account for different knitting styles, and is reflective of the measurements in the schematics,. It's more liktely +/- 100 yards. so I think your 210 could stretch if you made a shorter version / shorter sleeves etc. Also, for B you can use the same colour as A/D (but not C). You can also use multiple colours for B and C, and it will be fairly intuitive where you can swap them as the clues come out. I would say don't buy anything until you've hit a wall and really can't find a solution when all the information is in front of you. I'm confident you can make this work with whatever is already in your stash. Does that help? 🙂
