Surprise!
When you only bred 4 does to the buck, and two have kidded, one is not pregnant and one is due in 2 weeks. Then you drive up the driveway past the goat paddock and discover a surprise waiting for you. None of our Angora have ever had twins but there is a first for everything. They are so tiny, a buckling and doeling by mum Maria-Antoinette, all doing well.

What a nice surprise @Cassandra Steedman @Nural Seker oh those nesting birds are def interesting! Surprising how aggressive some birds can be. Over the years we have had similar situations - our eaves are a popular nesting point each Spring with Swallows and Miner birds. We also sometimes get Cuckoos who do the same.
The newcomers
Wanted to introduce the newest members of the farm. Ash and Bruce! Poppy finally popped and we have a white doeling with a black stripe and smudges, and a buckling who is a replica of Poppy's dad Rocky. The Anglo Nubian breed is so strong in features, it's amazing. Ash will stay with us as a milking goat, Bruce has been spoken for already. He will be joining Sage's buckling and living life as a pet goat. The new owner has requested they be named Doogie and Bruce.

Say G'day and introduce yourself
Welcome to the Ditch the Store community! I’m so glad you’re here. This is the place to connect with others on the same path — whether you’re just starting out or already knee-deep in compost. Take a moment to introduce yourself below. Tell us where you're from and what stage you're at in your homesteading journey. I’m CJ, and along with my partner (aka the Handy Helper), we run Mojo Homestead — 120 acres in regional NSW, Australia. We raise chickens for eggs and meat, goats for milk, meat and fibre, bees for honey, and cows for dairy and beef. We grow as much of our own fruit, veggies, and nuts as we can, and make our own bread, cheese, cleaning products, and even a few crafty things. We’ve been working on ditching the store for about 8 years now, and we’re getting pretty good at it — though we still buy toilet paper! Can’t wait to hear your story.

Hi, we live on 24 acres in the Snowy Mountains region (Tinderries) Australia and been there a long while. Mainly have chooks, fish and dogs (plus indoor kitten). Don’t get a lot of time to grow much except chickens! I enjoy watching the chickens grow up, we have had a fair few chicks hatch over the years.

Let us know how many and what breed you have. I have Isa Browns, Australorps, Araucanas, Brahmas and Faverolles. I have also had Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rocks and Wyandottes. We have also raised Cob meat birds. We currently have about 35 chickens who are pasture raised, so have access to their paddock day and night.

That’s a great variety! I’ve got 20 Wyandotte silver pencilled, plus just 1 Cochin.
