Fast alone but further together
He never would have found them. And they never would have found him. On paper, Sana Moran and the firm I placed him with were not a match. Different worlds. Different paths. No overlap. But both sides had one thing in common. They were willing to ask for help. That is the whole story. I did not have some secret list. I had two people who stopped trying to figure it out alone and let someone connect the dots. Here is what Sana said after: “A true privilege and blessing to have worked with Bill. The future is very bright for anyone who gets the opportunity to have him find and connect you to your next chapter.” That outcome did not come from working harder in a vacuum. It came from a decision. The decision to say I need to get through this fast, learn what I do not know, and move on to the next thing. Action is key. Everybody knows that. But action by itself is just motion. Action with direction is where it gets good. That is the difference between spinning for a year and landing the exact thing you wanted in weeks. Most people stay stuck because asking for help feels like falling behind. It is the opposite. The fastest people I know are the ones who get help the soonest. Watch the video. Then ask yourself where you are still trying to white-knuckle something alone that someone could shortcut for you in a week. 👇 If you have a question or need that, you’re looking for an answer, drop it in here, let’s see if we can connect some dots

Insurance / risk / exposure, how you get paid, non compete in current employers, tax / company ramifications ..... all things to consider. And a steady stream of work and support from family for dedicating the extra hours!

Everyone is good? Life is amazing? Need NOTHING at all? Afraid to speak up? Anyone? Anyone? :)
Welcome to The Blueprint
This community exists for one reason — to give engineering and trades professionals the tools, guidance, and connections they need to build a career (or a company) on their own terms. Whether you're an EIT trying to figure out your next move, a licensed PE eyeing a new opportunity, or a firm owner looking to grow..you're in the right place. Before we get into it, drop a comment below and tell me two things: 1. Who you are and where you're at: Name, discipline, location, and where you are in your journey...student, EIT, PE, firm owner, whatever stage you're in. 2. What brought you here. What's on your mind? What are you trying to solve, figure out, or get better at? Be specific... the more you give me, the more useful I can be. I read every comment. Let's get to work. — Bill Krell | The Civil Recruiter

@Shekhynah Curtis if you are doing your Masters on campus, suggest you work for the department or be an RA / TA, go that route. Masters requires a LOT of time and trying to serve two masters may not do you well. IF you are doing your Masters online and doing it nights / weekends, just work full time and plan on 3 to 5 years of good hard work and learning.
Taking Responsibility
The moment you start taking responsibility for everything in your life is the moment you get the power to change it. Most of us are in here to get better. In engineering, in the trades, in our careers. But that progress doesn't start with a course. It doesn't start with a mentor. It doesn't even start with me or Zane. It starts with you deciding to take the ball down the court yourself. I can give you guidance. Zane can help you. But none of that means anything if you're waiting on someone else to do the work for you. You can't help a man who isn't willing to help himself. And don't tell yourself "I've never been this way. I've never held myself accountable." That's not who you are. That's just a habit you haven't broken yet. It really is a choice. And you can make it today. 👉 We're a small crew in here, so your voice actually matters. What's one thing that worked for you when you decided to take accountability? Drop it below. Someone here needs to read it.

Starting to 'give myself some credit' was the groundbreaker that really changed the trajectory of my life. As engineers we are trained to find problems. When you turn that lens on yourself all you see are the things you did wrong or the things you didn't get done. When you reframe it to 'what if I gave myself some credit?', suddenly your life changes to positive and you see all the cool things that you got done and the people that you helped and every day is SO much better.
CO. thermostat check
With everybody that’s here so far what are you seeing internally inside your firm? Is it a positive attitude a negative attitude what do you see coming? This is definitely something you want to keep a pulse on what is happening internally and what is the total atmosphere? This can tell you a few things With your management, how well are they connected to the ownership and how fair and equal does the ownership make them feel? What do you want to create in the future if you’re leading a team do you want them to feel like you feel right now? If you’re in a positive attitude, but you’re just underpaid that is much better than being underpaid and feeling horrible about going to work But these are lessons to learn lessons to take in to understand really what do I wanna do in the future? But again, what’s the thermostat feel for your firm right now?

Are your companies running any particular operation system? We installed Traction EOS (Entreprenuer Operating System) years ago and it helps with constant meetings and core values and clear goals with rocks that everyone is working on together. Does your company share what is going on / what your specific goals are / does everyone 'have a number'?
