How YouTube works: The Earned Lotto
I've said in my videos that I committed to making 100 videos as an "exit criteria". That is I was "not allowed to quit" until I hit that number. But this is a simplification, the truth is this: YouTube (and many other arenas) are structured as "Earned Lotteries" What does it mean? Each time you upload a video to YT, it is like dropping one lottery ticket into the box. Now you think "well, if I keep dropping tickets, I will surely hit the jackpot at some point. Kaal said do 100 videos, so I bet I can hit the jackpot around that point!" Nope..... The Rule: The lottery ticket only counts if you meet the QUALITY BENCHMARKS of YouTube. If you don't, then the ticket submission doesn't count towards the 100 rule. So what are the benchmarks? I gotchu. === THE BENCHMARKS === There are hundreds of stats in YouTube studio, but here are the BIG 3 (it isn't close) I will attach screenshots to show you where to find these. I. Impressions Click Through Rate (CTR): 5%+ This is a measure of how good your thumbnail and title are. [Go to Video Analytics>Reach] II. 30 Second Retention percentage: 60%+ This is a measure of how good your hook is, and how well it aligns with your thumbnail & title [Go to Video Analytics>Overview>Scroll all the way down] III. Average Percentage Viewed: depends on video length.. for a 10-20 min video, 20% minimum for a 20-40 min video, 15% minimum for a 40+ min video, 10% minimum This is a measure of how engaging the video is to your viewer. This is a function of "value density" That is, how tactical your advice is, how entertaining the video is, how good your storytelling is etc. [Go to Video Analytics>Overview>Scroll all the way down] === BREAK === So all this to say, if you want to break into YouTube, you need to make 100 videos that have the following: I. CTR above 5% II. 30 sec retention percentage above 60% III. Average Percentage Viewed above 10-20%, depending on length Easy Peasy. Lemon Squeezy. Great stuff Kaal. I've seen plenty of guides that encouraging maximizing those figures, but having the benchmarks makes goalsetting and milestoning (if that's even a word) so much easier.

Click Thru Rate (CTR) comes from... Thumbail/Title comes from... Video Ideas Average View Duration (AVD) comes from... Video Structure Average View Percentage (AVP) comes from... Video Length
