Hello all! I'm from England originally but have been living in the western cape of South Africa for the last 28 years. There are some fascinating plants here. I've grown plants in pots intermittently for many years, but currently I just try to grow things I can eat - mostly herbs such as rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano... and also chillies. I also plant some in my garden which I have left to grow pretty wild. Really my first love is animals but I enjoy all things related to nature and wildlife - plant, animal, fungus... I also do a bit of (amateur) photography and enjoy taking close up pics of our very small creatures - even when they are sucking the sap out of my plants. Would I be permitted to post an occasional pic of these tiny creatures @Donna Scarborough - I feel people should see properly what they see as problems, especially when they want to destroy them!? I will post a pic of a basil lace bug (about 3mm long) as an illustration - some of these creatures are beautiful and many are not as destructive as we think - partly depending on growing methods etc. I am sure I can learn more about that here, as my growing success is very variable. To start, here is a pic of a crassula which I was given - the Seek app has identified it as Adromischus filicaulis, endemic to South Africa and Namibia. And the basil lace bug which was on a basil plant. By the way, I use no pesticides!
