Hey, I am Yvonne and I have been teaching for 19 years. I have spent almost my entire career as a virtual teacher. I have been in classrooms across the United States and in China. I have watched classrooms shift and seen and heard the most horrible things and thought maybe it would be different in an actual classroom. Nope, it most certainly was not! This is my second year in a physical classroom. Last school year was utter hell. I spent an exorbitant amount of time and money into PD over the summer to figure out what I was doing wrong. This school year is what my principal calls Yvonne 2.0. Everything I worked hard on all summer and implemented has not gone unnoticed. Teachers do not last long here I have yet to have an across the hall teacher friend. I teach 6th grade math at a public charter school with an urban population of students who are two or more grade levels behind. Behaviors are issues that don’t go away. Learning seems rare and feels like we are in the land of unlimited second chances. The school year has been long and I’m here because I desperately am trying to figure out how to get through the 41 days we have left.

I am the kind of teacher that absolutely will be hard on you. That’s a form of love, unbeknownst to some students. My students will experience math in the most sensical way using ARITHMETIC and they will learn the math language (vocabulary) to decipher any problem. No matter what happens at the end of each day, the next day is brand new. As strict and hard as I am on my 6th graders, I still get all the hugs. Because they know I mean the best.
