🥋 Welcome to BJJ for Old Men!
What inspired you to keep training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? I'll start. My name is Peter. I'm 65 years old, have been practicing martial arts for over 50 years, and have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2010. After two hip replacements, I realized something important. Getting older doesn't mean we have to stop training. It means we have to train smarter. That's why I created this community. I wanted a place where those of us who love Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can encourage one another, share what we're learning, celebrate our progress, and help each other stay on the mats for years to come. Whether you're 40 or 80, a white belt or a black belt, you're welcome here. Now it's your turn! Please introduce yourself and, if you'd like, share a photo from your academy or one of your favorite moments on the mat. I'd love to know: 🥋 Your name 📍 Where you train (academy and city) 🎓 Your belt rank ❤️ What keeps you coming back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you and building an encouraging community together. Train smarter. Roll longer. Live stronger.

I have some unfinished business with BJJ. I started in my mid 20s and was getting close to my blue belt when my gym shut down. Around the same time, I was entering a new season of life. Marriage, kids, growing my faith, and starting a business. BJJ had to take a back seat, but I always said I’d make sure my kids trained. Fast forward to 2021, when my second son turned 4. I enrolled him and my oldest, and by 2022 I started training with them inconsistently. I finally earned my blue belt in 2023…and then the blue belt blues hit. Everything changed in 2024 when my second son told us he wanted to compete. We entered a few tournaments and quickly learned there are levels to this game. By the end of 2025, my two oldest were competing 2–3 times a month, while I had pretty much stopped training altogether. Earlier this year, I committed to getting back on the mats, partly just so I can keep up with my boys. Now our days are centered around faith, family, and a whole lot of BJJ. I’ve been blessed with more time to sharpen my own skills while helping my boys chase their goals. Funny how something I once had to put down came back into my life through my sons.
