Welcome
Do you have a learner with a disability? Do they have a passion or interest that is sometimes harder for others to recognize? Or does your learner experience social gaps? Are you needing help advocating for services, or help gathering documents to apply for services? Then I, Winter Marshall-Allen from H.O.M.E.R. Organization for More Equitable Relations: Education, Wellness & Advocacy might be able to help you. My name is Winter J Marshall-Allen. I am a 19 year public educator specializing in Special Education & Behavior Intervention. I am specialist in the secondary setting and transition services. I am currently teaching at Homer High School. I have previously worked in the Oklahoma public schools before moving to Alaska. Upon arriving in Alaska I taught in the village communities of Ambler and Koztebue before I relocated to the road system here in Homer after the state budget cuts in 2016. I am humbled to have been the 2019 National Education Association Social Justice Activist of the Year. I regularly advocate for local, state and federal policy regarding IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and cultural relevance and competency within policy and practice. I am deeply invested in Local and State Union activities, as a Board Member and organizer. I was the South Peninsula coordinator and helped to organize staff for preemptive measures against the KPBSD strike in 2019 and I am currently Organizing the KPEA Human and Civil Rights Committee. I am a co-author published in 2020 in the book Flip the System US: How Teachers can Transform Education and Save Democracy edited by Michael Soskil. I completed my Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analytic studies at the Florida Institution of Technology. I will complete this degree in May 2023. I hold Three teaching licenses with multiple endorsements in the states of Alaska, Hawaii and the state of Oklahoma. My Mission- H.O.M.E.R. Educational, Wellness & Advocacy aims to provide a platform to amplify and further advocacy work already being done in Homer, to support equitable practices, to increase access through education and applied behavioral analytic practices and supports.
