Dog School Confessions
What’s one lesson your dog refuses to learn, no matter how many treats you bribe them with? Let’s hear those stubborn (but loveable) fails. Tell us all in the commments. For me, Penny is having challenge with "Stay". She is getting a little better at it, but its still a challenge for her.

Dog Adopting Question
Hi all, I am participating in a workshop and was posed a great question, so I am going to ask you all a few questions. For those of you a adopted a dog from a shelter or rescue, what process did you use? Did you just go to a shelter or did you do research first? Was it your first dog? Did you plan ahead, or just go to get a dog and then went on from there. For those of you who went to a breeder, what was your process for this route? What was the decision making process you used to pick you specific breed of dog that you wanted? Last question: If you had a " Dog Adoption guide", would it have made things easier for you in the process of bringing your dog home?

@Kristen Claire hi Kristin I did adoptions for decades -from vetting the applications, vetting the animals, vetting the prospective home, doing home visits and I do think a lot of those questions are addressed with the adoption counselors. Because every situation is going to be different and because not every adoption counselor/volunteer may advise on these things or make themselves available having a guide would be useful. I was always available for questions. I also created a questionnaire for the fosters so they could advise on things. Did they notice that the dog particularly liked something? what food he had been eating and how often, where he slept, whether they noticed that he was afraid of brooms, thunder, any peculiarities, any personality bonuses, was leash trained, follow basic commands & what they were. I also advised on changing the name slowly if they were used to it or if they had been called it for long period of time. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the surrender, there may be things that the previous owner or caretaker knew that they would share. Thanks for adopting not shopping.!
