Is anyone else feeling the weight of the world right now? Every time we open Facebook, we encounter war, famine, environmental destruction, political upheaval, prophecies, warnings, conspiracy theories, and frightening predictions about what may be coming. Some of what we see is real and deserves our attention. But mixed among those realities are people who profit from keeping us frightened, outraged, and scrolling. The truth is that none of us knows precisely what lies ahead. For those who have experienced an awakening, this can feel especially intense. We may become more sensitive to emotion, injustice, contradiction, and the energy of the people and information around us. But sensitivity without grounding can become overwhelm. Not every fearful feeling is a prophecy. Not every disturbing post is a revelation. Not every repeated claim is the truth. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is put down the phone, care for our bodies, sit in silence, and listen for the voice beneath the noise. The Gospel of Mary tells of the soul encountering seven powers that attempt to restrain it. We understand these powers as human conditions—the fears, wounds, desires, attachments, and inherited distortions that keep us disconnected from our divine nature. Mary’s soul does not overcome them through violence. She recognizes them and discovers that they no longer have authority over her. An early Christian text called the Gospel of Truth describes ignorance as a nightmare and calls us to strengthen those who stumble, feed the hungry, give rest to the weary, help people rise, and “awaken those who sleep.” This is our work. Not to prepare for the future by becoming more frightened, but to prepare our souls by becoming more conscious. Whatever lies ahead, humanity will need grounded people who can discern without losing compassion, feel deeply without being consumed, and respond from love rather than fear. Today, ask yourself: What is mine to know? What is mine to do?
