While you can use the possessive 's, it's less common in everyday language for this specific phrase, which functions more like a compound noun or adjective-noun pair. Why "U.S. flag" is preferred: - Adjectival Use: "U.S." (United States) often functions as an adjective modifying "flag" (e.g., U.S. Department of State, U.S. Constitution), so "U.S. flag" is natural.
