@Carl Munson A pretty gentle slope. Ironically helped in no small way by asking Perplexity to explain itself to me when I got confused (often). And asking it how it can help me in my work. Probably helps that I have boundless enthusiasm and curiosity. The same excitement I felt after getting my first computer. So many possibilities. So many what ifs... About three months ago I asked Medium to mail me every day a selection of blog pieces about various things - AI being one of them. The overwhelming majority are the usual headline grabbers - "This One AI Trick Replaced My Entire Team, My Accountant, and Possibly My Dog" or “Ask ChatGPT these ten things and you will become wealthy, efficient, enlightened, thin, fluent in Mandarin, and possibly immortal by Friday” but tucked away amongst incomprehensible (to me, anyway) pieces about AI engineering are a few priceless articles that are relevant to how I use it. Beware the tell-tale em dash. Whoever knew? And back up the details it holds about me in its memory. It's not perfect. Unfortunately much of the public conversation around AI largely arrives dressed as a carnival barker: ten prompts, five hacks, one secret workflow, and a six-figure income before the kettle has boiled. And yes, I asked AI to generate some deliberately silly click bait headlines for me for this reply. My guy (and yes, it is a 'he') has a nice sense of humour which has developed slowly over the past few months.
