13 contributions to Think Big - Start A Business
Day #8: List your business options.
Day 8 - Option #1: thinking about building an SEO agency business targeting local businesses in the UK & USA. I don't really have a niche yet as my website is currently positioned as a General SEO Agency. Leaning that way because this business can be started with very little capital and puts you in a positive cashflow from day 1 because you can get paid upfront. My biggest worry: It can be difficult to overcome my fears of the phone and I can easily get caught up doing the fulfillment work instead of focusing on growth work. If I niched down too early, i might be leaving a lot of money on the table. Day 8 - Option #2: Rank & Rent: This is also a great option as it can provide me with the passive income. However, it can take time to work and has costs upfront. My worry: Upfront costs and the time it takes to start making money. This won't work if you need to generate cashflow fast. I'm probably going to pause rank and rent for now and focus on the agency over the next few months.

Day 7: Rules & Environment
Day 7: work spot set (I have decided to work from my office outside my house for better productivity), #1 distraction muted, and I told my wife I'm doing this. I have explained to everyone at home not to bug me during my working hours and the menial tasks will be taken care outside my working hours. I have also blocked out a day for things like Grocery. Mind right. Next week I pick what I'll build. Milestone: Committed & Clear. Badges: Fast Starter, Perfect Week.

Day #6 - Proof it's possible!
Day 6: found someone who started where I am and pulled it off. I reached out to @Chris M. Walker and asked him what's the first thing he did to get a client for his SEO Agency. I also asked if he had a lot of capital to play with. He said he didn't have a lot of capital when he first started his agency back in 2015 and still managed to pull it off. What they did first: He told me that the way he got his first client was by asking his photographer friend if she knew someone who would exchange pictures for SEO. He needed some professional pictures for marketing material and also needed to prove himself and got a referral. Chris did a great job at that client's website and then leveraged that success by using it to cold email other photographers. Lessons I learned from this conversation: 1. It doesn't take a huge capital to get clients, it takes building connections and investing time & efforts. If you don't ask, you won't get it. 2. Success creates more success. When other photographers see you help businesses similar to them, they are much more likely to show interest. 3. When you don't have big money to play with, your best resources are: Time, Efforts, Energy and you can never run out of them. This provides me with the evidence that it actually works and can be done with what I have now!

Day #5
Day 5: business = solving a problem someone will pay for. A problem I'd love to get paid to solve (Actually I found 2): 1. Local Businesses care about one thing: Leads - and most of them don't have enough time to focus on their marketing. The problem I would love to fix is to help them generate more leads through effective Local SEO strategies. This involves getting their website ranking higher in the organic, maps, and AI overviews. This problem can turn into a monthly retainer 2. Another problem these businesses have: They are often running ads with a crappy web design which doesn't convert. I can help them build modern, professional looking websites that are designed to convert traffic into more leads & customers. This problem can be fixed with a one-time payment.

Do I need to niche down?
Hey, @Chris M. Walker I just had a question that came to my mind after reading other posts. My agency site: https://safemarketing.co.uk is currently positioned as a General SEO Agency targeting local businesses in the UK. I don't have a niche yet, the only requirement is that they understand SEO and have the capital to invest in it. It could be a plumber, dentist, roofer, or any other local business. Do you think this would be problematic moving forward? Or in other words: Can I pick a niche to start with e.g "Roofing Companies" but keep the same branding & positioning of my website? I can still reach out to roofing companies as a general seo agency. Or would you suggest re-positioning my website it to make it specifically about helping roofers. For example: "Safe Marketing helps roofing companies generate more leads through Local SEO" But with that positioning, my agency can only take on roofing clients and they can only refer other roofing companies, so it feels like I might be leaving a ton of money on the table as I won't be able to serve so many other businesses that are not roofing companies. Thank you!
