Whether it’s a bank, an investment platform, an exchange, a wallet or somewhere else I’m putting my money or digital assets, there are a few things I always want to know. 1. Who actually controls it? Do I control the money or asset, or am I relying on someone else to let me access it? 2. Where is it actually held? Is it with a bank, an exchange, a custodian, a platform… or do I hold it directly? 3. Can they stop me accessing it? Can withdrawals be frozen, delayed or restricted? 4. Can the rules change on me? Fees, withdrawal limits, regulations, account access… how much of that is really in my control? 5. If something goes wrong, what’s my backup? Do I have another way to hold, move or access my money? I still use banks (altho very little). I use exchanges when needed and even use different platforms. I just don’t like being completely reliant on any one of them. That’s really the point.
