Your Body Isn’t 60% Water,
Your Body Isn’t 60% Water, It Depends Who You Are You’ll often hear the rule of thumb: “The human body is about 60% water.” That’s a good estimate. But it’s not the full story. In reality, your water percentage is a moving target, shaped by age, sex, and body composition. In some cases, 66% is actually spot on especially for children or very lean, muscular adults. How Water Changes Over a Lifetime We begin life highly hydrated and gradually “dry out” as our bodies change: • 👶 Infants: ~75–78% water • 👨 Adult men: ~60% • 👩 Adult women: ~55% • 👵 Elderly: can drop to 45–50% (The difference between men and women largely comes down to body composition: muscle holds far more water than fat.) Where Is All That Water? Water isn’t just something we drink it’s built into us: • 🫁 Lungs: 83% • 💪 Muscles & kidneys: 79% • 🧠 Brain & heart: 73% • 🧴 Skin: 64% • 🦴 Bones: 31% • 🟡 Fat tissue: ~10% Why This Matters Because muscle is nearly 80% water and fat only 10%, two people with the same body weight can have very different hydration levels. An athlete and a sedentary person may weigh the same but their bodies are literally made of different proportions of water. Fun fact: Around two thirds of your body’s water lives inside your cells, not in your blood or stomach. Understanding water isn’t just about hydration advice it’s about understanding how the body is built. What’s one “common fact” in your field that turns out to be far more nuanced than people think? #Hydration #BodyComposition #Wellness #Performance #HealthScience #BeverageIndustry #FoodScience #HospitalityInsights #BarLife #CoffeeCulture #BarNinjasINT

Sort of like how Agaves grow. The older they get, the less water they have. Only difference is that Agaves get sweeter as they age:)😅
