@Sherrie McCarthy why do we (women) tend to do that -- downplay our accomplishments? I think I may do it because I was always taught to be humble because no one likes arrogant people, but as the saying goes, "if you don't toot your own horn, no one else will." I mentioned to a friend that a book chapter I had written was published in January, and she said, "Why didn't you say something? People need to know this! It's a sad dog that doesn't wag its own tail." I am going to work on doing a better job of sharing my accomplishments but not in a braggadocious way. I think it might also be that I am always thinking about how I can be of service to others because of years of attending Lutheran schools and being raised by parents who modeled giving back and often engaged us in the experience. Throughout my career, I noticed that I intentionally chose positions that allowed me to make a difference while making a living -- even though it meant I was often not making much money. Now, I want to do both: make a difference and make money -- at least enough that I have the freedom and flexibility to do work I am truly passionate about from anywhere, preferably on a beach in as many different countries as possible. That's why I decided to finally implement some of these ideas I have had swirling around in my head.

@Tara-Nicholle Kirke For my Top 3 career wins, I initially found myself thinking about major accomplishments at different places I worked. Then, I shifted to groupings. By that, I mean I shifted from writing something like "I grew the Detroit Pistons' Stay in School initiative from 1,000 students to more than 16,500 students over a 5-year period and made it a model for other NBA teams to follow." I have three statements like that. Then, I shifted to something like themes, such as "I design for freedom." Every system I have built, every opportunity I have created, every door I have opened has been a deliberate choice about who gets to belong, who gets to lead, and who gets to define what excellence looks like. This includes designing and developing the Stay in School program and many other community initiatives, creating an internship program to ensure women and people of color had access to interviews and opportunities in professional sports, helping establish a Congresswoman's archives, building a college-wide storytelling system, producing coordinated, collaborative communications for the student journey so prospects through graduates get the right messages at the right time, and writing a dissertation that centered Black women designers and declared that experience is expertise. When I worked through identifying these top 3 wins, I was thinking about what I tell my students: there can be multiple right answers to the same question and a variety of viable solutions to the same challenge.
