If you happen to work from a laptop that you move around from your studio to wherever, and are tired of having to fiddle with Bitwig's audio out settings, restarting audio engine, etc - this tip is for you. Props to a friendly person in the Bitwig discord. - Open the Audio MIDI Setup app - From the + at the bottom, Create Aggregate Device - Add both (or all) of your output devices. (note the output channels of each device) - a) I put my interface first in line, and selected it as the clock device. (chan: 1-2) - b) I then add my second preference, default laptop speakers (chan: 5-6) - Open Bitwig -> Settings -> Audio. - Set your 'Output Device' to the new Aggregate Device (also input if you use part of it for input, such as your interface) - Next, you need two Output Busses of Role: 'Speakers'. Assign one and match it's channels. (see above) - Add another, same type, and match it's channels - Lastly, in Bitwig's Output Monitor panel, arrange these by priority. Now, Bitwig should automatically go with the output that is available. If you unplug from your studio, it will fall back to the next available option, without having to restart the audio engine, or select another device in settings. I tested this out today and it worked perfectly. The only warning to be aware of is that when recording, if your output is to the laptop speakers, it's possible that the timing clock can drift and mess with things. I didn't notice this happening, but it's something to be aware of, since anyone's setup is probably a little different.
