Training is not leadership, especially when the outcome of that training is not clearly defined. Without a measurable objective, training becomes an activity without impact. When a parent raises a concern, for example, about a child’s inability to read, the response should not be, Teachers, who need training?” Instead, leadership should focus on building a working system that addresses the issue. In this case, the goal should be to create a structured reading culture supported by clear processes. Training is meant to strengthen execution, not replace critical thinking. It equips people to perform better within a system, but it does not design the system itself. Leadership, on the other hand, is fundamentally about thinking. It involves diagnosing problems, designing effective systems, and ensuring those systems produce consistent results. Thinking cannot be outsourced. Effective leaders lead by designing systems that work and not by relying solely on training to fix problems.
