CIC Mirrored Acrylic
My niece needs some acrylic medals carved out. Yesterday, I was practicing with a piece of 1/4" acrylic she got me from Michael's that was on sale for 50% off. There wasn't anything on it that said whether it was cast acrylic or not. While using that, there was no issue with the bit. I did smell the plastic melting smell a little, so I sped up the Feed and lowered the RPM, which it improved. However, when I went to the CIC Workshop mirrored acrylic, and after practicing one medal with no issues, I set up the tool path for three of them at a time. It did the first one ok, but then the other two, it was a mess-which I thought was due to my leaving the protective film on it, until it finished and I removed the Raptor dust boot and saw the wad of acrylic melted to the bit. After seeing that I started babysitting with the air compressor to blow away the acrylic chips. I was using the CIC Workshop 60V bit. After that, I tried their 30V and it wadded up almost immediately after starting, so I changed to the IDC 90V (I don't have the CIC 90V) I have and it worked a lot better. I did see the plastic almost start to stick a couple of times, but was able to blow it away, resulting in being able to do that one okay. At this point, the non-mirrored look better when I thought the mirrored would look better. Do y'all have any suggestions on the best v bit to use so I don't have to babysit when I start to make 50 of them?

@Tommy Obar what's the learning curve with it? Is there a lot to leaening how to use it? I'm gonna go ahead and buy that bit.

Over the past 8 months, I've been learning how to use my Onefinity Journeyman Elite. I've learned A LOT from YouTube University sources, like Ryan, Kyle Ely (bought Learn Your CNC), Andy Bird (bought his CNC Kickstart), IDC Woodcraft, and Duffy Woodcraft videos, including downloading his files, suchas his Cribbage and Coffee scoops (which, while not be a hot sale item at $15 each, I am selling them steady enough that I have to keep making them). I've also learned some from Etsy files I've downloaded. Until now, except for small designs (like cutting out cabinet parts and drawers for my CNC table, I've been learning practicing mostly from these and Ryan's Kits of the Month and other videos. Not wanting my CNC Business to just be other designs that I've purchased, etc, I designed my own Cribbage board with storage. The attached VCarve file is MY file (I tried to send it to Slim at CIC through Yahoo, but it was too big, so I told him I'd post it here), that I created and it worked, and I'm ecstatic over it. There are a couple of extra tool paths in it to clear out missed wood that was shown in the Preview-something that I'm sure is just something I'm missing about the toolpaths. Please tell me what y'all think.

Thank you for such encouraging words Lois! I have another minor(?) flaw with the card storage cover. In trying to ensure that the 1/8"x1/8" magnets got secured, I put a lot of ca glue in the pockets, around and on top of them. There's enough magnetic force to hold the lid on, but not enough to hold the deck of cards in the pocket-ugh. The thing I'm gonna do is sand down the overflowed ca glue off the top of the magnets. If that works-WIN! If not, I'll have to figure out another way, I'm thinking maybe industrial velcro? I'm also thinking about changing the toolpath that creates the lip for the cover to make the lip at least twice as big so I can put wider magnets in the lip. I also have an issue with the toolpath used for cutting out the covers as I didnt realize it would the corners out as square 90s so I had to sand the corners. I'm gonna have to adjust the lid and pocket rectangles to have the filleted corners to allow/adjust for the way the bit cuts. Of course I already made 4 of them before realizing that! 😆

I’m Ryan, the founder of this group and a passionate CNC entrepreneur. I’m super excited to have you all here. This community is all about helping each other grow, learn, and create with CNC machines—whether you’re just starting or looking to take your skills to the next level. Here’s a little about me: - I’ve been working with CNC machines for 10 years, building a business and helping others do the same. - My favorite thing about CNC is turning a simple design into a product that people love. - Fun fact: I love Bourbon and Tequila, and have over 100 bottles in my collection/stash Now it’s your turn! In the comments, let us know: - Your name and where you’re from - What stage are you at in your CNC journey (just starting, hobbyist, business owner, etc.)? - What you’re most excited to create or learn with CNC - A fun fact about yourself! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing what amazing projects we’ll create together!

I'm Tim and I'm in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. I received my Onefinity Journeyman in June and dove into it learning and VCarve Pro these past 2-1/2 months. I want to learn everything about CNCs. Since getting it, ive used it to make several things, including cabinets and drawers for my CNC table. See the pictures below of some of the items I've made using my cnc. I'm also a small business owner, as of this year, TM Woodworks. I'm hoping the cnc will be the main tool that pays for itself and everything else--I'm LOVING it! A fun fact about me is my other passion. I'm a retired cop, but I keep up to date by being a Reserve Officer at my agency and teaching recruits the High Liabilities (First Aid/CPR, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Vehicle Operations) at the local police academy.

Hi y'all! I'm a beginner woodworker, in that "just start" phase. Currently working on family Christmas gifts and I refinished my wife's hutch.
