Screen Neutral Family OR Digitally Unbothered Family?
If you were scrolling online and heard someone talking about these two concepts, which phrase is catchier? Which one instantly resonates with the vision you want for your family? 1. The "Digitally Unbothered" Family • For Parents: You step in as the calm, unmovable leader. Your emotional baseline isn't dictated by a screen time transition. • For Kids: They can use a device to learn or play, but when it’s time to turn it off, they transition effortlessly without a meltdown. • The Vibe: Screens exist, but they have zero power to bother your family's peace. 2. The "Screen Neutral" Family • For Parents: A logical system that removes the guilt. Screens aren't babysitters, but they aren't the enemy either—they are just tools. • For Kids: They feel entirely neutral about screens because their real-world offline life, family connection, and physical play are way more exciting. • The Vibe: We own the screens; they don't own us. Vote in the poll below and let me know which one makes you stop scrolling! 👇 (Poll Options) • Digitally Unbothered Family • Screen Neutral Family

📋 FAMILY SCREEN TIME RULES MENU
How to use this list: Think of this as a menu, not a mandatory checklist. Every family is completely unique, so your job is to review these options and select the 3 to 5 rules to start with that make the most sense for your home right now. As you build your Family Screen Time Rules, decide together which rules are "bendy" 🌿 (flexible depending on the situation, like a sick day or a long road trip) and which rules are "brick walls" 🧱 (strict, non-negotiable boundaries built for safety and health). Pick your battles, start small, and remember: we are building habits, not perfection. 📍 SCREEN-FREE ZONES & TIMES - 📵 The Device-Free Zones: Keep bedrooms and family mealtimes completely device-free. - 🔋 The Charging Hub: All devices charge overnight in a central, shared location, not in bedrooms. - ⏰ Analog Wake-Ups: Use analog alarm clocks to wake up so a phone isn't the first and last thing a child touches. - 🌅 Tech-Free Mornings: No screens for the first 30 to 60 minutes after waking up to prevent immediate dopamine spikes. - 🌙 The Sundown Rule: Turn off all screens 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. - 🚗 The Commute: No screens in the car for short, everyday trips. - 🌳 Be Present: Turn off all screens during family outings. - 🍿 Family Night: Establish a weekly family screen-free night. - ⏱️ Consistent Hours: Set consistent, family-wide times for when screens are allowed to be used. ✅ THE PREREQUISITES - 🧹 Work Before Play: Finish all homework, chores, and daily outdoor or active play before turning on any screens. - ⚖️ The Real-World Rule: Screen time must never crowd out sleep, physical exercise, or family connection time. - ✌️ The Easy Exit: Kids must be able to step away from screens without a struggle to maintain their screen privileges for the next day. 🛡️ SAFETY & DIGITAL HABITS - 🗣️ The "Safe Report" Rule: Kids can report weird, scary, or inappropriate online content to a parent without the threat of immediately losing their device. - 🛑 The Gatekeeper: Always ask for parent permission before downloading any new app. - 🎂 The 16 Rule: No social media accounts until at least 16 years old. - 🔕 Intentional Viewing: Turn off autoplay, push notifications, and endless scrolling feeds on all devices. - 🤫 Privacy First: Never share personal information, photos, or location data online. - 👤 Stranger Danger: Absolutely no chatting with strangers online. - 🕵️‍♂️ Parental Audits: Parents maintain the right to audit their kids' phones and devices for safety. - 👀 The 20-20-20 Rule: For every 20 minutes of screen time, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to protect eye health. - 👓 Protect Sleep: Turn on blue-light filters (like Night Shift) if screens must be used in the evening for homework. - 🧩 Build Literacy: Work together as a family to discuss and build digital literacy.

When you start implementing these rules in your home and for the best adoption of these rules Here are the Do's and Don'ts ✅ Be Clear, Calm and Consistent Have your kids be able to repeat back the rules, the meaning and consequence if broken Start with the most important rules for your family and build from there Get those quick consistent WINS - start with the rules that are easy to enforce Give your kids some grace at first when the rules are brand new to them Let your kids know how proud you are of them keeping the rules and that you recognize their effort! 🚧 DO NOT assume they know them because you repeat them a lot! DO NOT be harsh or unfair with the consequences when the rule is broken
