As Top Chess evolves, the most important thing to emphasize is this: the new direction of this channel will be purely focused on chess improvement. We know not everyone will agree with the changes, and some members have voiced concerns. That’s okay. But the goal is clear: to create a space where serious players can learn strategy, technique, improve their ELO scores, and grow—not just as chess players, but as thinkers. What’s Changing: - No more leaderboard gaming. Typing every number from1000 to 1” or spamming numbers doesn’t improve your chess. It distracts others—and it stops here. - No more Milo talk, F-bombs, or spam. We’re cracking down on non-chess content. If it doesn’t help someone become a better player, it doesn’t belong. - Zero tolerance for bullying or snide remarks. This includes mocking members for asking questions or pointing out distractions. Respect is non-negotiable. Yes, these rules might feel strict—but they’re here to protect the space for serious growth. When you invest time here, you should get results. Hello everyone! I am writing to share that @Joey Powers is the new Owner of Top Chess. As a result, he will be leading all parts of Top Chess, including the Top Chess Gang & Army communities. This is GOOD NEWS for everyone here because Joey has the time & energy to make this community better and give everyone here a better experience! I wish I had the power to thank every single person here individually. I am TRULY GRATEFUL to have been a part of Top Chess. YOU GUYS have helped to make this channel and this community so wonderful, and I truly appreciate everyone here. I am FULLY CONFIDENT that Joey is going to usher in a new era of PROSPERITY for Top Chess and everyone here. This is not the end. This is a NEW BEGINNING! When you're pushing your passed pawns in the endgame, it can sometimes be quite difficult to figure out whether your pawn will queen or if the opponents king is going to catch it. To simplify it for you, let's introduce the rule of the square. It's very easy to draw the square. Simply draw a line in your mind to the promotion rank. That's one of the sides of the square.
