⓷ Trail Check #3 - January 16, 2026
Well it's a Friday evening Trail Check this week since I'm getting this post up a bit late, but it's still Friday at least 😀. These check-ins are posted right before the weekend on purpose so you can take Saturday or Sunday to reflect if you need to. Whether it's Friday, Saturday, or even Sunday by the time you put that reflection into a comment, please still take the time to think about your website accomplishments this week and post something good below!

Part of why today'sTrail Check post is later is because of a big website win I had this week. I'd been wanting to change my hosting provider for awhile now, and the renewal was coming up quickly. I had the choice to leave things the way they were and pay for another year (for a subpar product I really didn't want) or take an uncomfortable step forward and actually make the change. Well to make a long story short, I decided to take the uncomfortable step and finally change hosting providers this week. It took longer and was more involved than I thought it would be, but I made it happen. I finished the migration and switchover today, and wow does it feel good to be on this side of the process! In the interest of keeping these Trail Checks positive (which I hope we all will do), I won't go into all the unpleasant details here. However, I do plan to share the experience in a future post and/or module so we can all learn from it. Now tag, you're it! What was good for you this week?
01/14/26 Base Camp Q&A Call
Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great second full week of the new year. Since there were no live questions for our second Base Camp Q&A session today, I took this time to cover an important but often overlooked topic: What actually matters on a website (and what doesn't). These principles hold especially true for photographer and artist websites and really any small business website at some level. I think we've all been here at some point on our own website journeys, and if you're just starting out, hopefully these ideas can help make your climb a least a little bit less steep. When you watch the recording (about 8 minutes), I'd love to know which ideas spoke the most to you for where you are on your journey right now. Feel free to drop your thoughts and reactions in the comments below. And remember that these weekly Base Camp sessions are here for us to help each other on our climb. If you can't make it live, post a comment with a topic you'd like covered here, and we can incorporate it into a future Base Camp session. Until next time, have a great rest of your week, and keep climbing! 🏔️

⓶ Trail Check #2 - January 9, 2026
If it's Friday, it's Trail Check time! That means it's time to share something positive about your website. Nothing is too small to mention, and everything we share here moves us further along the trail. So, what's good this week?

I enjoy the way the menu header of my photography homepage starts as part of the header image. Then the menu hides itself when you scroll down and pops back into view when you start scrolling up again. It's a fun interactive effect that adds some interest to the page.
01/07/26 Base Camp Q&A Call
It was a little bit lonely in our first Base Camp Q&A Call today (just yours truly in fact), but that's okay. We'll have another one next week! Since there were no "Q's to A", I used this time as an opportunity to talk a bit more about our Community and where we're headed, using my own website as an example of how we can get there. You can catch the recording below (it's about 10 minutes). If you couldn't make it today due to a scheduling conflict, drop a comment below with some preferred times you'd like to see for our interactive calls. Since we have members in different locations, please also be sure to include your time zone when you suggest a time. And, if you didn't even know the call was happening today, head over to the Calendar tab to check out the schedule. No shame there, but now you know. Have a great rest of your week, and keep climbing! 🏔️

One thing I really like about my photography website is the masonry style photo gallery on the homepage. This feature gives an initial overview of my photography and creates interest with the varying image sizes.
