Has anyone listened to the new YT episode? Musicians Everyone Hates Playing With The top 10 reasons are pretty spot. I was in a band with TWO Daves. I was also in a band with lead singer/lead Dunning Kreuger guitarist. Holy jeezuz in hockey skates. If it was a 12-bar blues song, we would have to contend with playing anywhere from 6 to 31 bars of something. Now, he threatened to punch me in the throat for recommending a metronome/drum track to play against in rehearsal and practice. "I don't no metronome" Well maybe, but you need a grammar lesson too. He was also the biggest drinker. Mind we were getting scale wages here ie two beers and a pizza. I cannot eat pizza nor drink beer for biochemical reasons. This asshole would drink 9-11 pints of micro-brew over a two hour set. This one guy represented maybe 6 of the top 10 list. In a big band, the top 10 list is likely well represented. In a duo, there's no room for it. Cheers.

Oh heavens do I have stories….😂😂. When I do connect with someone who knows how to play in a band or even in a duo, I latch on to them like a suction cup.

Band-oke
Anybody attempted a Band-oke night, where 'invited' punters can get up and sing live with the band off your established repertoire? We did it once in Auckland, really went off and we had some great singers come up. We tried it again a few months later and it fell flat.

The one and only time I ever saw this was on a cruise ship where the band had about 200 songs and the amateurs picked and sang from that lost. The band also had two singers that served as guides/overrides when the participants are less-than…. I actually did a song with them and we quickly merged with me on lead and the guy and girl hitting the harmonies. Karaoke for me is a fun time, not a serious time so I don’t mind it if the singers are occasionally bad. I’ve met a few solid vocalist through the years through these types of gatherings. If the singers are consistently bad, I just leave.
