As community owners, we can get caught up in: “What should I post today?” 🤔 But maybe that's not the best question. Instead, ask: 👉 “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱?” Because a post can be valuable and still get… 👀 Read 👍 Liked ➡️ Scrolled past And that's not necessarily a bad post. But if you're trying to build a community, you also want people to feel like there's somewhere for them to join in. So here's today's little challenge: 💬 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸. Before you publish it, ask: “𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?” Maybe it's a question. Maybe it's asking for their opinion. Maybe it's inviting them to share their experience. Maybe it's simply giving them something they can relate to. You don't need to turn every post into a question. Maria wrote the post at eleven at night, and then she deleted it for the fourth time. For 25 years, Maria worked in corporate HR. On LinkedIn, her former colleagues still knew her as "Head of People". Two years ago, she started coaching leaders through burnout. She had a lot to say, as she had sat with people on the worst day of their careers. But every time she wrote about burnout, she imagined her old colleagues reading it. Would they think she had failed? (Maybe you have thought something like that, too, when you had to change career?) So she posted industry news and deleted everything else. Then a younger coach in her network asked for help. "You always know what to say to people. Can you help me with my About page?" Maria spent one evening asking her questions, the way she used to in exit interviews. "What made you leave your job?" "Who do you want to help first?" "What do people thank you for?" The coach cried a little when she read the result. "This is exactly what I could not say." Within a month, two clients found her through that page. Maria noticed something one evening. Writing someone else's story felt easy. She could hear the person clearly, and her own fear stayed quiet. Today, Maria helps coaches and consultants tell their stories. Her 25 years of listening became the reason clients choose her. They learned about her new way of working with people because she found the courage to start posting online about it. ______________________ Maria is a composite of several people I have worked with.
