Library Organization
I’ve just finished lesson 4 and it gave some very useful information. But my biggest obstacle has actually been with my library organization. I have confidence in my song selection but struggle to find and play new songs while mixing live. I feel that my main issue is that I’m not able to organize my library correctly and have many different variety songs I like in one playlist. I’m not able to come up with a strategy to organize my music so that my playlist are more cohesive and I’m able to play a bigger variety of music instead of resorting to the same songs i usually play. Is there any advice to tidy up my library?

@David Duarte A friend organises her playlists by the hour, building energy over a four hour nightclub set, hour one warms up, hour four headlines. She can play for hours with this system and is a great Dj. Another sorts his tracks by the month he bought them, and that works for him. I’m more chaotic. I usually throw together playlists of up to 100 tracks, nailing the first 10–20 in a sequence I know works so I can fall back on it if inspiration fades. Over time, I find tracks by remembering the gigs I played them at and digging through playlists in Rekordbox. Sometimes I “lose” tracks, only to rediscover them later while cobbling together a new mix. I did try organising by key for a year but my mixes became flat and formulaic.
