Kiln
Hey Paula, I’m enjoying your videos! I am a newbie to pottery. I fuse glass and have a glass kiln, elements are in on the top and the highest temperature the kiln goes to is 1800F. I’m hoping to make moulds and bisque fire as I would like to slump glass into it. I know I can’t do much more than this as top temperature is only 1800F. I have an electric controller. Any thoughts?

Thank you so much for all the info Paula! I think for my purpose I would fire to a top temperature of 1750F to 1775F as my kiln limit is 1800F. This temperature should be sufficient to harden the clay as I will only be going to 1200F to 1250F to slump the glass into a shape. I do not need to glaze. What firing schedule would you suggest for the low fire clay? Also how long do I dry the clay before firing? Definitely don’t want something blowing up in my kiln.

I’ll have to give it a try. Thx Paula,
The Great Pottery Throwdown
Hey y’all! Have you been able to watch the show? Guess what! I found it on You Tube! Here is the link for the first episode of Season 9 (just incase you could not watch it!). https://youtu.be/D04vahxvELA?si=4YXcf1Vi67PyCzU- I am editing my video of throwing the soup tureen- I got distracted by snow this past weekend! South Carolina NEVER gets snow! What a treat (well, it is when you never see it!)! How is everyone surviving the winter out there?! I enjoyed the snow, but hate being cold! One day is enough! Nothing like working with clay in the cold! I finally have heating and air in my home studio, but when it is freezing outside, my clay feels like ice! Post a picture of your latest make! If you are a beginner and have any questions, ask away! I am also including a snow picture from the window of my studio! Stay muddy! Paula
