Winter IMO Collection Method(?)
I’m looking for ways to do two things: 1. Catch IMO in winter 2. Explore lower barrier to entry tasks you can accomplish when it comes to IMO I think this has some real potential—seen some folks do it on YouTube. The thing you miss is the IMO you catch in the forest by leaving a container in there is gonna have all of the environmental factors (weather, temp fluctuations, yeast floating in on the wind, etc.). So doing a “lab-like” indoors approach isn’t gonna result in the exact same thing…but, it’s gonna get you SOMEthing 😂

@Thomas Wagenknecht I’m gonna do another collection cuz this one turned out a little dry (I tried a different technique for cooking the brown rice and they didn’t retain moisture well enough). So I’ll show a bit more detail of what I’m doing here in the next one

Only the top centimeter was really infused with hyphae—the bottom was more crumbly
IMO3 'failures' turning out to be 'succeses'
So far I've had two failed IMO3 attempts where the temperature got out of control. I winterized 3 large vegetable beds 2 weeks ago by broad forking them (they had never been tilled or worked up), spraying a humic acid+LAB solution, sprinkling the rejected IMO3 , and then covering them with leaves. I checked under the leaves the other day and was amazing by the mycelium activity. It seems that less than perfect IMO3 still does a lot of good! Happy experimenting everyone. (My oats sprouted in my IMO pile. Another learning opportunity)

Yes! Awesome to see
Super easy hot compost pile
Been meaning to upload this for a while now--wanted to highlight a really simple way to make hot compost. You can watch the video on 2x speed but essentially I'm just raking out my chicken bedding and layering on carbons (leaves) and nitrogens (bokashi, yarrow clippings, JADAM Liquid fertilizer). I also "inoculate" the pile with a bit of finished compost from a previous batch.

I help home gardeners build low-cost, regenerative systems that boost yields without the waste and dependency of modern gardening.
