Sometimes the best thing you can do when you're frustrated is walk away. Yesterday afternoon I was out walking with YoYo in the beautiful Normandy sunshine. It was October 1st, and somehow we're enjoying 28°C, not exactly normal for this time of year, but I'm certainly not complaining. ☀️ Before this walk, I was sitting at my computer trying to do something that should have taken just a few minutes. It didn't. A simple task became hours of technical problems, frustration, uncertainty and eventually anxiety and anger. And I noticed something. The more frustrated I became, the harder it was to think clearly. So I stopped. I took three long, slow breaths. I closed the laptop. And I went outside. I walked with YoYo. I felt the sun on my face. I listened to the birds in the trees. I watched the soft white clouds moving across the sky. And slowly, I came back to now. Nothing outside had changed. But something inside me had. My mind was quieter. My body had softened. And I could think again. Sometimes we don't need to push harder. Sometimes we need to stop. Step outside. Breathe. Feel the sun. Listen. Walk. And allow ourselves to return to the present moment. When I eventually went back to the computer, the task that had seemed almost impossible became simple. Perhaps frustration isn't always telling us to try harder. Perhaps sometimes it's telling us: Stop. Breathe. Step away. Come back to yourself.
