EPITALON: What’s behind the “longevity peptide” conversation? 🧬 I’m turning 54 this month, and I’m interested in aging with enthusiasm. Staying strong. Staying curious. Having the energy to enjoy the life I’m building. So yes—the research on aging has my attention. One peptide you may hear about is epitalon, also spelled epithalon. It’s a synthetic peptide made of four amino acids, developed from research involving the pineal gland. It remains investigational. (fda.gov) Why are people talking about it? Much of the interest involves telomeres—protective structures at the ends of our chromosomes—and telomerase, an enzyme that helps maintain them. In a frequently cited laboratory study, epitalon increased telomerase activity and lengthened telomeres in cultured human cells. That’s an interesting finding, but those were cells in a laboratory. The study did not show that people taking epitalon lived longer or aged backward. (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) Here’s a detail that deserves more attention. Epitalon and epithalamin are different substances. Epithalamin is a pineal gland extract; epitalon is a specific synthetic peptide. Research on one cannot automatically establish the benefits of the other. Even the FDA’s review specifically distinguishes them. (fda.gov) That matters when someone says, “There are decades of research.” My next question is: Research on which substance, in whom, and measuring what? What about safety? Epitalon is not FDA-approved. FDA reviewers have identified gaps in human safety evidence and concerns about potential immune reactions related to peptide aggregation and impurities in compounded preparations. Long-term safety remains uncertain. (fda.gov, fda.gov) My Nurse Tanya takeaway: Stay curious. Ask better questions. Before considering an investigational peptide with a licensed clinician, ask: • What human evidence supports the benefit I’m seeking?
War

Exercise
Exercise has been one of the last things I have put into play. I’m finally there. Again. What I’m enjoying right now- 🚶‍♀️walking with my 20lb weighted vest. And reformer Pilates. I bought this little cheep 28reformer for at home. Ofta- it is a lot more work out than I expected. I’m already missing the outdoor walking weather. Goal- live somewhere in the winter that I need a sweatshirt to enjoy my morning walk. What is your exercise routine in this season?
